I made a prayer recently to ask God to use me to love others.. and in a special yet heart warming way, He answered my prayer.
Half an hour before knocking off from work, I was informed by a member that a boy got burned by hot water when a cup noodles spilled on his feet. I quickly went out to assess the situation. (The boy's name is rather cute -> Yi Zhi Fan (YZF) is his name and he came from China.)
It was bad. Both his feet were turning "angry-red" and blisters were starting to form. Ice cold water brought by one of the boys was slowly pour onto burned area. I can only imagine the pain poor YZF was feeling, seeing how he struggle from screaming out. The burned area was quickly dapped dry with tissue and vaseline was applied on it.
I went back into the centre and sat down. Looking through the internet and the first aid kit, I was thinking what else can I do for the boy. I wasn't feeling quite right to just leave the YZF like this. That was when I decided to bring YZF to a nearby clinic to see the doctor. I asked 2 of his friends to bring YZF into the clinic to register and wait for his turn while I went back to the centre and locked the place.
Doctor informed us that YZF suffered from a second-degree burn. The pain has became unbearable for YZF, seeing how tight he squeezed his friends' hands and arm and the constant flow of tears. A painkiller injection was administered to relieve the pain and the doctor prescribed antibiotics, a medicine for swelling and inflammation and a disinfection liquid for YZF. Back to the centre, following the doctor's instruction, I soak YZF's feet in a big bowl of ice cold water for around 15 min. At the end of the 15 min, the angry-red looking skin was tone down to pinkish burned skin. It was a good sign. YZF had also stop crying from the pain.
Unable to walk home, I send YZF home together with his friends in a cab. It was lucky that he only need to climb one flight of stairs. I was invited into his house by his grandmother. Having after explaining the situation and directions for feeding the medication, I was ask to accept a sum of money by the grandmother for the medical fee and taxi fare. I insisted that it was not necessarily and did not took the money. However I did accept the offer of YZF's mom treating me to a meal.
What's so heartwarming was seeing how YZF's friends staying by his side, helping him to bear his pain. They repeatedly ask YZF to squeeze their hands and arm to help relieve his pain, assuring YZF that they can take it, don't have to worry. They told YZF jokes and tells him that once he recovered, he can see the classmate that he likes in school =P. They even start planning out the days and who to visit YZF while he is resting in school. I almost cry seeing the pain YZF is going through and smile, seeing what great friends YZF has..
YZF is indeed blessed to have such great friends who will stay by his side when he is in pain.
The heartwarming feeling left me smiling all the way home...
